we
had a new shooter (Jim) from So Calif and we set him up to shoot HV and
he loved it. Weather was strange with fog & some smoke left over
& we weren't sure we would be able to shoot today when we were
setting up as we could just barely see the crosshairs, but it was
clearing more by the time we finished so we continued to shoot with
winds that were almost nonexistent but the thermals were a mild
swirling. and for the 2nd relay we saw the winds would come & go
but mostly they were rather consistent til the last target.

Clear
mild swirling off & on winds building with Sun glare. Weather
report said winds were up to 12mph but we did not see that strong in
the Redwoods.
i finally got the Sumo sealed off and was shooting at 950 fps.

consistent.

We missed our third regular shooter because of prior commitments and will see him next shoot
After not shooting for months it takes time to relearn all the nuances
of the whiling winds and thermals here. The winds started out mild
around 2MPH but were off & on and building slowly giving us a
chance to learn how to read the flags again. And the winds did build up
to somewhere around 6 or 7MPH and in LV the hold off at times was
in the middle of the nine ring and the winds where steady at times, but
if you missed the flag switching on you , you shot an 8 or 9.

our fingers were getting so cold we
were loosing feeling in them, swirling winds were rather mild bouncing
around from 2 mph to 6 mph and sun glare was very short. Tony's LV gun
broke and he had to shoot his HV gun. Robert is still trying different
things and learning fast. my Thomas is humming again for open :)

again i will

a short period
of wild sun glare. We started early trying to
catch the early mild
winds and it was so dark at 50 yds we couldn't see
where the pellets
were hitting when we started. We were both testing
new/different pellet
and i ran out of mine in the 2nd relay, but
sorting them made a big
difference. Somebody pulled my stunt and forgot to
shoot one of the
bulls.

Weather
cold
swirling winds 2 to 5mph, Sun glare was mild.
Tonys LV gun broke
early in the first target and did not get fixed so
he switched guns for
the 2nd relay. Robert was still testing different
pellet weights and
thinks he might have finally found a good match.

Next
match will be Friday Oct 26 depending on the

Wind Conditions

Robert & Tony

Robert

Weather
was
sunny and rather windy. Winds averaged 5 to 7mph
with very fast
switching early and switching slower as we shot
giving us a chance to
see what sighters would do. you can see in the
images above how bright
the Sun glare was and when it was on you or your
scope was nasty.
Robert decided to shoot the 2nd relay with
different hunting pellets
he uses to see how accurate they really were and
decided they really
are not as accurate as he thought they were
:)

Next
match will be Friday Oct 11 depending on the

We
did
not go to GP to shoot our regular monthly 50 yds
so decided to try
50 yards at Redwoods. we spent more than an hour
setting up just the
flags for 50 yds and when we finally started i
could not see a sgl
flag shooting between the trees but after that
much trouble we started
anyway. Tony was surprised he could read flags as
well as he did and
now will want more flags for his regular shooting.
Robert thought it
was fun also but with me not having flags we quit
after the one relay.
Weather overcast with winds switching up to 6
miles an hour.

only
2 of us shooting with typical starting wind
conditions. switching mild winds and sun glare
from shooting East.
then during the break between relays it went dead
with no wind, we
thought why not do this for us during the relay
when we were shooting ?
and i told Tony it will come back with more power
then ever as it has
been doing all week, and low and behold did it
ever in the middle of
target 2 of relay 2 then settled down to high but
pretty steady winds.

We
miss
our two favorite shooters from Grants Pass but
they had to go
to a Wedding :) they did not miss any good
conditions, we had some of
the worst wind shifts i've seen in a long time.
The top of the trees
were swaying and the wind was coming into the
trees from a different
direction every 10 to 20 seconds. plus Tony was
testing a new gun for
him in LV and i was testing different pellets in
HV. both of us had a
cpl of really wild flyers.

For
our
first 2019 outdoor shoot we had our two shooters
from Grants Pass
with nippy/cold overcast weather and unpredictable
winds. some times
the flags would all be pointing in different
directions with tails
hanging or wobbling a little and the pellets would
still go elsewhere
:( after the scoring was done Tony said he
was having so much
trouble today and he would get frustrated when he
got a flyer and the
rest of the target would go to pot. i pulled all
his targets and looked
and told him the targets told what the problem
was, and i told him all
of his flyers were on line 4 & 5 which meant
he was shooting thru a
fern AGAIN.
he said no he plucked like the rest of us did, so
we went back out to
the range and the fern by his target was
plucked like the rest
were but low and behold a fern up 10 ft in front
of his bench had 2
leaves up.

had
our
two favorite shooters from Grants Pass again with
cold but clear
and sunny weather with mild sun glare and mild
winds building. it
seemed at times the wind was mild and steady but
the pellets didn't
know it. we decided it was the invisible
thermals from the sun
streaks sneaking down and telling the pellets to
move aside :)

We
both slept in late but Tony
drives almost an hour from north of Brookings so
we only shot one
relay.
No Sun glare but changing winds off & on. Tony
was going to shoot
unl with his P70 and i talked him
into trying the Thomas shooting Beasts at 850fps,
i think he enjoyed it
:)

2
shooters with overcast requiring
jackets with very mild winds & no smoke. but
as everyone knows
when it looks like no wind, something is affecting
our pellet flight
because they fly better when there is a mild wind

We
had our two favorite shooters
from Grants Pass Steve & Barb back from their
vacation in France.
Barb pulled one of my old tricks and forgot
to shoot a cpl bulls
on one target.
Weather was comfortable w/mild winds picking
up on 2nd relay, Sun
glare not too bad.

again only 2 shooters with blue skys and no
winds during setup
but becoming howling tail winds switching left and
right off & on
during the match. i felt the strong steady tail
winds where better to
shoot in then the lighter winds that switched too
often. Tony was
shooting pretty good but seemed to be having
problems with the
bottom row each target and i didn't check until
his 5th target and saw
he was shooting thru one of the fern leafs, after
i cleared the fern he
shot the next 2 target bottom rows much better.

The
Saturday date was
rained out and we shot the next day for the rain
day and it was kinda dry but damp. i and Tony were
the only shooters
that showed. Over cast and nippy cold and the wind
was pretty strong as
we were setting up, propellers spinning and tails
horizontal but seemed
steady til we started shooting and then of course
that was when it
would switch. the winds seemed to die down a
little as we shot but was
still yucky. and Tony pulled one of my stunts, he
did not shoot a bull
which is a minus 10 points

For
the
first match of the 2018 season we had some strange
weather, during
setup the flags were spinning crazy with tails
horizontal but started
to calm down when we were ready to shoot to semi
mild swirling winds
causing one flag to point in different direction
from the one next to
it and switching faster then the flags could
show causing some
crazy shots. Head & tail winds were scary not
knowing if the wind
was flat or going up the hill. and the Sun glare
at times caused
complete loss of vision for some of us during
the shooting. The
swirling winds even caused some of us to go shoot
a sighter and come
back and forget to shoot the next bull, a minus 10
really sucks.
Barbara did Very Well for the first shoot of the
outdoor season.

Weather
was
very cold and conditions weird with winds coming
and wirling around
making flags next to each other go opposite
directions and then just
disappear. looking like no wind but we knew
different plus we
were guessing the cold plus Sun glare was
affecting the guns or the
scopes because they were shooting some strange
flyers early on. the
Temperature finally got up into the low 60's as we
were finishing up
for a fun but strange day of shooting.

We
were
expecting bad smoke from all the fires nearby
but got lucky and
had an overcast cool morning getting cooler as
we shot. The winds were
mild and unexpected as usual, some of the
flags pointed in
opposite directions next to each other. Barbara
shot very well for her
2nd time shooting light varmint. Tony had
problems with his P70 and was
unable to finish. Another fun shoot with friends
from Grants Pass

We had a very light
overcast and cool day with very mild steady
winds or so it seemed when
we started earlier then usual this
AM, We had a full house last match but
only 3 shooters this time.
And as usual when we switched to relay 2 the
winds pick up but this
time they seemed steady tho typically swirling
around amongst the trees
plus the overcast clearing give us Sun glare. We
all had a good day
shooting amongst the Redwoods.

We
were rained out last weekend and
rescheduled for today, it was a light
overcast and cool day with very mild
wind when we started early in the
AM, and again as you know very
mild almost nonexistent winds are
a dangerous thing to shoot thinking no
wind and i will just shoot down the
middle and again
we found out just how dangerous. We had
a full house with more shooters
then benches so son and i had to make a
new bench earlier in the week.
As usual when we switched to relay 2 the
wind picked up and
typically swirled in amongst the trees
making some very interesting
conditions. i let Russel shoot some
magic pellets Kim from Oxnard sent
me to test and he (Russel) only had 29
of them for the first target in
the 2nd relay & grudgingly shot the
rest of the targets with the
normal pellets as he had done the first
relay, we all had a good day
shooting our second match of the 2017
season amongst the Redwoods.

We
canceled last month and the first match
of this month for Rain &
because of more Rain we changed to
today, and it was a very light
drizzle when we started early this AM,
and it was forecast for sunny
day but stayed overcast all day w/ a
very mild almost nonexistent wind
which as most of you know is a dangerous
thing to shoot in thinking no
wind just shoot down the middle and we
found out just how dangerous.
Approx. around noon when we switched to
relay 2 the wind picked up and
typically swirled amongst the trees
making unpredictable conditions.
only one Grants Pass shooter (Chris)
showed and had a fun day shooting
our first match of the 2017 season
amongst the Redwoods.

We had to
cancel
the Oct 15 for Rain and because the forecast for
our Sat rain date is
calling for more Rain we changed to today
after weeks of rain it was nice overcast w/ mild
steady wind which died
about noon when we switched to relay 2
but came back mild and died again off & on
for the rest of relay 2
the regular Grants Pass shooters missed a great
day for shooting
our last outdoors shoot for the season

We had 2 guests
from
Grants Pass and the new local shooter Ed for an
almost full house with
only one bench open. The weather turned nice
after all the rains we've
had in the last cpl of weeks and it was a nice
day for shooting, winds
mild and steady & less sun glare. Tony ask
when we were scoring
what would make his gun shoot bad on the same
bull each time ? we all
wondered and it dawned on us and went out and
checked and found a fern
leaf had grown up in front of bull 25.
next shoot Oct 15 if it doesn't rain
